Arriving in San Fran - mid 20's - wonderful blue skies....loving it! Wandering from our hostel (yeah, we're doing the cheap and nasty thing here!) we headed down to Glide church - thanks John and Tracy - where every Sunday the choir / jazz band perform twice every Sunday (before services), entertaining the packed church. Luckily we headed down there early, sitting 3 rows back. The music was great, entertaining and fun filled, with everyone dancing, joining in the songs and clapping along throughout the performance.
Around half ten, we decided to hit the pavement and make our way towards Fishermans Wharf, where all the tour companies - boat, bus, cable car etc - departed from. Taking a hop on hop off bus tour of San Fran (the new one - which takes you to the Golden Gate Bridge).
Touring all the sights - we decided to get off the bus to see the Japanese Gardens, the Golden Gate, City Hall and the Wharf area. The Golden Gate was spectacular (when in view), with the fog consistently clouding the bridge - from view, then a minute later, it had cleared, making it both frustrating and exciting at the same time. It was amazing to see how quickly the fog moved across the water! Alcatraz was also spectacular to see from a distance, but we are destined to get up closer in the coming days - unfortunately, we are unable to get on the island itself - as it is a special anniversary / celebration of the island (beginning 10th Aug) and is booked out for the coming fortnight....oh well....you win some, you lose some! So we'll see it by the water. An amazing city thus far- loads of hills and great views, but a different feel than we expected!
