Arriving safely after a long journey from Auckland to Vancouver - then on to Ottawa - we soon found out why temperatures reach up to -40 degrees. Snow covered the planes, tarmac and anything else that got in its way.....but very nice to look at. Only -5 degrees today - considered warm for this time of year!!! 2 wonderful employees from Jack Donohue Public school met us at the airport - at a touch after midnight! Lesley & Peter welcomed us to Ottawa, giving us the best gift of all - warm jackets! A quick dash to the car - with snow falling gracefully from the sky - we headed for our house.....where we will spend the next 12 months....which is exciting.
Our very first day in Ottawa - we awoke to - you guessed it - snow!!! Covering everything from roof to road. Before heading outdoors to do some "sight-seeing" - we had to take care of some business - shovel snow from the driveway.
Our lovely neighbour took us around to the local butcher (from NZ), green grocer and supermarket, as well as offering to take us around the city tomorrow. So far, Ottawans have been very kind hearted and welcoming to the "Aussies" that are inhabiting their city.....let's hope it keeps up!!! Only difficulty we have had was ordering a coke at macca's.....the young lady had a bit of difficulty with my accent.....or because i have difficulty speaking english - not sure which one yet!!! Have a nice hot New Years guys - we'll see if we can match the temperature - but in the negs of course!!!
